Eng. Khalid bin Mohammed Albalushi

Eng. Khalid is a highly professional, confident, and ambitious leader with over 16 years of experience in environmental compliance, climate change, environmental management, and sustainability across a variety of roles. Currently serving as the Director General of Climate Affairs at the Environment Authority of Oman, Eng. Khalid also leads the Omani Negotiation Team for Climate Change and the team negotiating the Treaty on Ending Plastic Pollution. Additionally, he acts as a Climate Affairs Expert to the Chairman of the Environment Authority in Oman.

Previously, Eng. Khalid served as an Expert in Regulations and Studies at the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia from June 2022 to January 2024. Over the past decade, he has focused on critical areas including the development of net-zero strategies, managing and executing climate change mitigation projects, and planning adaptation strategies. His expertise extends to capacity building for the climate change sector, designing climate financing strategies, and overseeing carbon credits management, including the preparation, implementation, and reporting of ITMOs frameworks.

Eng. Khalid has played a key role in regulating compliance requirements for carbon credits registration and has contributed to establishing high-integrity carbon markets. He has also worked on developing a master plan for carbon market growth in collaboration with international partners, such as A6IP from Japan.

Known for being self-motivated, reliable, and diplomatic, Eng. Khalid excels at multitasking and maintaining a positive attitude under pressure. He is recognized for his integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

With a strong interest in sustainable development, corporate sustainability, sustainability reporting (in alignment with GRI standards), and governance in environmental management, Eng. Khalid is passionate about advancing life cycle assessments (LCA), cleaner production mechanisms, and the social license to operate. His expertise spans sustainability, governance, policy and legislation, environmental management, environmental assessments and auditing, waste management, water resource management, project management, carbon credits, carbon markets, climate finance, and climate change mitigation and adaptation projects.
